 Sun shines for Spring Festival

CLEAR skies made way for the tenth annual Waipawa Spring Festival on Saturday.

A good line up of entertainment kept crowds happy: this included Waipawa’s M and D’s humorous skit as well as an enthusiastic bunch of line dancers.

This year saw many stall holders selling a range of items including books, plants, arts, crafts, and food.

There were plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy, including miniature pony rides and a mini ferris wheel, and a large number of spot prizes drawn throughout the morning.

At 12.30, the crowds made their way to the Waipawa River, and lined the banks to watch the duck race.

Five hundred plastic ducks were let into the river, with duck number 282 crossing the line first, and winning $250 for its ticket holder.

Duck number 130 won second place and third was 240, so check your tickets if you haven’t done so yet!

For the second year, the Waipawa Lions held the children’s duck race, which again was a success. Sixteen children made their own ducks and entered them into the competition.
