Quacky decision has town chirping
A DECISION not to allow Pawa the 400 kilogram concrete duck on Waipawas main street has met with anger.
Central Hawkes Bay Councillors agreed yesterday to offer the unofficial town mascot a home at Madge Hunter Park near the Waipawa Bridge.
But the decision has angered Waipawa Chamber of Commerce president Stephen Jenkinson, who said the council was out of touch with public opinion.
The duck has done more to promote Waipawa than any other recent initiative, Mr Jenkinson said.
A petition signed by 369 people called for its return to the main street after a year in storage. The chamber, which owns Pawa, is to discuss alternatives.
